Australian Productivity Commission
The Australian Productivity Commission has undertaken a research study into Australia’s not for profit sector. See the full report at www.pc.gov.au/projects/study/not-for-profit/report
The submission from the Illawarra Forumto the Productivity Commission covers a large number of the issues our sector has been advocating on for several years and is an opportunity for us in the Illawarra / Shoalhaven region to rigorously document the impacts of government policy and administrative procedures on the delivery of services. By using case studies the Illawarra Forum submission discusses:
• the impacts of short-term funding
• constraints on the advocacy role of the not for profit sector
• workforce development issues
• unnecessary or ineffective regulatory requirements (administrative and reporting) from Federal and State levels of government
• the impacts of competitive tendering on the sector
• the difficulties in measuring outcomes and impacts of our work
• financial resources and levels of funding
• the ‘lead agency’ model and its effectiveness or otherwise
• whether government funding is assisting the integration of services or otherwise
• the role of not for profits in the social inclusion agenda
• the contributions our sector makes in developing communities
• the need to protect the diversity of the sector and enhance the capabilities of small organizations.
